The Anticipation Of Change

jessicap691

It's hard to imagine but here we are at the end of January. For me the end of January means it's time to start thinking about gardening. For the last 15 years or so I did a lot of gardening . I gardened with the kids in my wife's Early Learning Center and until covid hit all through the summer and well into the fall I provided the center with vegetables for snacks. A year ago I fully retired from that role in my life. I also did the maintenance for all of our property. It was quite a change, I had a lot more time on my hands and so over the last year I have been changing my daily routine. I focused much more in my shop and now spend probably 30 hours a week in my shop carving or working on wood projects. Retirement has been a major change in my life.

My carving over the years has gone through lots of evolutions, most haven't been major changes. Sales were never a part of my carving plan, I have given most of my carvings to friends and people who simply thought it was neat. I was carving in spare time, maybe 5 hours a week and in the summer much less. My art in general has been an afterthought. I said before, that I'm not naturally technical. What that means is my learning computer programming for websites and all those things attached to them like this blog are as foreign to me as so many of you would feel walking around in the middle of a farm or forest. So here I am in my carving room this morning typing this with speaking type in Google doc, all of this websites blogs Online sales it's all new stuff to me at 74 years old. So I need to know if you're reading this what you find interesting about me and my work and my carving. Should I do more videos on my carving and how it relates to my life, would you be more interested in how I carve, what tools are used. or are you interested in how I choose my subject matter? What caused you to take this time out of your busy life to read what I've written here. The questions that I have are what kind of price range should I be looking at for my work. What kind of subject matter would you like to see me carving? If these questions interest you and you have some thoughts on them I would love to hear your thoughts. One thing that's coming up lately is whether I would consider doing some teaching on carving characters or other things. I also have a CNC machine and that's as foreign to me as the rest of this technical stuff. Every time I use it I learn new tricks of the trade so for me after years of contract building this is quite a change in my life. one that I now embrace, to be able to pursue my art and I hope others can enjoy it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and watching the videos that I've made so far. Every time I make one I try to improve what's visible and whether it's of Interest. I truly do appreciate the feedback I get.

Thanks again Dave
